On Saturday 11 June 2022, FOUGARO presents at BLUE2 space a very interesting art project by the German painter, Brigitte Hofherr, titled "Endangered Portraits".
On the occasion of the 10-year anniversary for FOUGARO, which is housed in a former tomato canning factory, we invited Brigitte Hofherr to create a series of botanical illustration works
dedicated to tomatoes, which used to abound in the Argolic plain. The artist, who has been visiting the Peloponnese for years, has gathered images and information about tomato varieties from the
area of eastern Europe that, since they are not widely cultivated, are threatened with extinction.
Based on this material, she has created a series of paintings depicting endangered tomato varieties. The dimensions of each work highlight the characteristics of each variety, keeping in mind
that the wealth each region carries is its biodiversity. By letting the plants have the floor, we hope to raise awareness against the unpleasant development of historical and primitive plant
varieties disappearing. As Brigitte Hofherr puts it, "we have to acknowledge that the only way to protect something is to know and love it."
